Rabbits

Housing

Rabbits should be housed individually in a suspended enclosure no smaller than 5 square feet and 16 inches high. If mesh is used, it should be 1 inch by 2 inches on the sides and no more ½ inches by 1 inch on the floor. A tray filled with cat litter should be placed beneath the cage to catch urine and fecal material. Water and feed dispensers that hang from the side of the cage can be used for delivering food and water. Cages and dispensers can be cleaned and disinfected twice weekly with bleach diluted one part to ten parts water. Rinse well after application. If you let your rabbit in the house you need to rabbit proof the room by getting rid of cords and making sure there are no furniture, rugs, or drapes to chew on.

Temperatures

Rabbits enjoy an environmental temperature that ranges between 65 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. They can not tolerate temperatures above 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

Diet

Commercial rabbit pellets with occasional pieces of carrot and/or lettuce. Do not overfeed. The average rabbit consumes 130 grams of food per day.
